The Leadership of National Association of Nigerian Traders (NANTS) in partnership with Niger Union of Traders Association, Ghana (NUTAG) representing the interest of Nigerian Traders and small business owners in West Africa  organized a protest rally at ECOWAS demonstrating against the slow pace of regional integration and particularly, the hypocrisy of the Ghanaian Authorities closing shops and businesses belonging to Nigerians in Ghana. Unfortunately, one of our members in Ghana committed suicide dover the protracted closure of her only means of livelihoods while debtors keep mounting pressure on her to repay loans.

This matter started as far back as 2007 and has lingered till today with increased tension when Ghana came up with a law that no foreigner would be allowed to do business in Ghana unless he has one million USD capital in cash or equity. We see this law as a frontal attack and violation of the ECOWAS protocols which Ghana is a signatory to. ECOWAS laws see citizens of member states as community citizens and not foreigners. This xenophobic character against Nigerians must stop!
