THE National Association of Nigerian Traders (NANT) has asked the Federal Government to formulate and implement deliberate policies to empower smallholder farmers by dedicating over 60% of the special intervention funding to them.
It noted that the nation’s economy is already becoming very unstable as a result of failure of the government to pay attention to the needs of farmers and small scale traders despite their huge contributions.
‘’The association is now asking the government to dedicate at least, 60 per cent of agriculture funding to the Small Scale Farmers (SSFS), create policy space for the involvement of SSFS, especially the marginalised groups,’’ the association demanded.
NANT president, Mr Ken Ukaoha, disclosed this yesterday during a public presentation of the ‘Farmers Manifesto and Traders Charter of Demands’ in Abuja.
