The National Association of Nigerian Traders, NANTS, says its Modern Small Scale Abattoir located at Giri in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory has reached 90 percent completion.
President of NANTS, Dr. Ken Ukuoaha made this known while inspecting the project in Giri Abuja.
Dr Ukuoaha said the project which is being supported by the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation, SDC, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Gwagwalada Area Council, FCT Administration and West Africa Institute for Trade and Agriculture Development is expected to be commissioned next month.
He said modern abattoir facilities including stable water and electricity supply have been put in place to meet international standards.
According to him, the abattoir had made provision for a training centre, cooling vans, security post, office accommodation and other necessary facilities for smooth operation.
Dr. Ukuoaha stated that apart from providing healthy and hygienic meats for the public, materials from the Abattoir would also be used for the production of bio gas and liquid fertilizer for agricultural purposes.
The NANTS President explained that the a abattoir when completed would create thousands of direct and indirect jobs for Nigerians.
He stated that it would also serve as training and research centres for tertiary Institutions within and outside the FCT as well as boost the capacity of butchers in the Territory.
Dr. Ukuoaha pointed out that the project would equally fast track the growth of the economy in the FCT as it would serve as a One-Stop-Shop in the area.
While commending the support of all NANTS partners in the project, Dr Ukuoaha said the Association would continue to embark on projects that would compliment efforts of the Federal Government in improving the nation’s economy.
