The Federal Capital Territory Administration has promised to render necessary technical assistance to the National Association of Nigerian Traders, NANTS, to ensure the successful completion of its modern abattoir in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Territory.
The FCT Director of Veterinary Services, Doctor Regina Adulugba made the promise while on an inspection visit to the project, sited in Giri Abuja.
Doctor Adulugba who described the modem abattoir as very important to economic development of the host community and the FCT in general commended NANTS for the project.
According to her, the project when completed will generate jobs for the teeming youths and women in the FCT, ensure consumption of healthy meat, production of bio gas for organic fertilizer among others.
Earlier, the President, National Association of Nigerian Traders, NANTS, Doctor Ken Ukuoha said the project which would be completed before the end of the year would be built to meet international standard.
Doctor Ukuoha expressed gratitude to the FCT Administration and Gwagwalada Area Council for the provision of 8 hectares of land for the construction of the modern abattoir which he said would also serve as a one-stop-shop for traders in the FCT.
According to him, the abattoir would also be a training centre for meat processors and sellers as well as students of higher institutions within and outside the FCT
The NANTS President who explained that the project is being supported by ECOWAS, the Swiss Development Agency and Wezt African Institute for Trade and Agriculture Development reiterated the determination of the Association towards projects that would further enhance national economic development
In a message, the Director of Agriculture, Gwagwalada Area Council, Salisu Makama thanked NANTS for establishing the project in the area.
The Director who was represented by a Vetenary Officer, Yohanna Yahaya said the abattoir would contribute immensely to the growth of the Area
