The National Association of Nigerian Traders (NANTS) joins millions of Nigerians and the global community in celebrating Workers’ Day 2026, a day set aside to recognize the resilience, dedication, and invaluable contributions of workers to national development.
Today, we pay special tribute to Nigerian traders—the backbone of commerce and a critical driver of economic growth. From bustling urban markets to remote rural communities, traders continue to demonstrate extraordinary strength, innovation, and perseverance despite economic challenges, infrastructural deficits, and policy inconsistencies.
In line with this year’s Workers’ Day theme, NANTS reaffirms its commitment to advocating for policies that promote ease of doing business, access to affordable finance, improved market infrastructure, and protection of traders’ rights across the country.
Speaking on the occasion, the leadership of NANTS emphasized that traders are not just participants in the economy but key stakeholders whose welfare directly impacts national stability and prosperity. The association called on the Federal Government, state authorities, and relevant stakeholders to prioritize the needs of traders by:
Ensuring fair taxation and eliminating multiple levies
Providing access to low-interest funding and grants
Investing in modern market facilities and security
Strengthening policies that support small and medium enterprises (SMEs)
NANTS also urged traders nationwide to remain law-abiding, embrace digital transformation, and continue to uphold the values of integrity and professionalism in their businesses.
“As we celebrate Workers’ Day, we honour the strength behind every trader. Your hard work fuels Nigeria’s economy, and your resilience inspires hope for a more prosperous future,” the statement read.
The association remains committed to building a more inclusive, supportive, and thriving trading environment for all Nigerians.
Happy Workers’ Day!
Signed: National President National Association of Nigerian Traders (NANTS)
